How To Get The Most Out Of LED Treatment

When getting professional LED light therapy treatment, there may be a few extra things to consider, from tracking your progress to adding skincare products to enhance results.

Take Progress Photos

Changes such as fading of acne or decrease in wrinkles may be gradual because LED lights work from the inside out. Therefore, it is essential to track your progress so you can notice the results.

Before going for a professional LED treatment:

  1. Take a few photos with a clean, no-makeup face.
  2. Take forward-facing and profile photos on each side.
  3. After each treatment, take the picture at the same place and time of day for consistency in your photos.

Consistency is Key

Light therapy works best consistently, with results varying depending on age and skin condition. Treatments are recommended 2-3 times a week, with each treatment lasting 20 minutes. You’ll likely need up to 10 treatments, depending on desired results and follow-up treatment once a month afterwards.

Start Clean and Beware of Sunscreen

Make sure you have a clean face for full effectiveness. Start by cleansing your face thoroughly with a gentle exfoliating cleanser to remove all dirt and oils, especially if you wear sunscreen or moisturiser containing SPF. Sunscreen blocks a broad range of light wavelengths, reducing the effects of LED light therapy.

Enhance your Results

Combining LED light therapy treatment with skincare products may give you faster results.

Some skincare products may include:

  • Green tea extract: According to a 2009 study, pairing “LED light therapy with green tea extract works ten times faster than a similar anti-wrinkle treatment that uses LEDs alone.”
  • Vitamin C serum: Using Vitamin C serum with red light therapy can help brighten your complexion and boost your radiance.
  • Retinol: Retinol and LED light therapy shouldn’t be used together simultaneously. However, research shows that you can combine retinol and red light therapy for maximum anti-aging benefits if done correctly. You should apply retinol after your LED treatment to avoid unexpected skin reactions.
  • Other anti-aging creams or serums: Look for products with hyaluronic acid, peptides or argan oil
  • Salicylic acid and BHAs: Beta hydroxy acids, or BHAs, are often in creams, ointments, or cleansers that treat and prevent acne. These products can work well with blue light therapy.

It may only take a bit extra work to get the most out of your LED light therapy treatment, but it will all pay off with your youthful, healthy glow.
